Butler High School has Memorial Day program Friday

Sixteen local people will be recognized during the 35th Annual Memorial Day Program taking place Friday at Butler High School.

The public is invited to attend the free program, which will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the high school’s Student Activity Center, 306 S. Dixie Dr.

Those being recognized include active duty military personnel as well as military veterans, according to Bethany Reiff, Public Relations coordinator for Vandalia-Butler City Schools.

Those individuals are Joseph Beal, Ambrose Beeson, Dean Black, John Buckmaster, Dennis Davidson, James Jordan, Jr., Robert Lumm, Elwood Rogers, David Sabec, Gary Schlecht, Kay Shearer, Hillory Shifflett, Larry Tootle, Dorothy VanZant, Thomas Westerman and George Youngerman Jr.

Event organizers are looking to expand their outreach with the help of the community. They are asking community members to share information about this event with veterans and active duty members of the military. They would also like to expand their contact list for active duty personnel and veterans.
