When the car hit the pole about 4:20 p.m., an estimated 1,556 customers lost power, DP&L spokewoman Kelly Millhouse said.
By 6 p.m., the number of affected customers had fallen to 283, she said.
There will be some customers left without power while the pole, which carried several transfer power lines, is being replaced.
According to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, there were no injuries in the incident, but witnesses told Dayton police the driver looked to be possibly intoxicated. The driver ran off, a dispatch sergeant said witnesses told police.
