Be careful where you “tie a yellow ribbon”

Tying “a yellow ribbon ‘round the old oak tree” may be a nice gesture, but it can be dangerous. To the tree, that is.

The all-volunteer City of Xenia Tree Committee is raising awareness about the dangers of commemorative ribbons placed on trees. The group sent out a news release Tuesday, warning that ribbons left can cut into, or actually girdle the tree if left on for a prolonged period of time.
