CENTERVILLE — “Clue” is the theme of this year’s prom at Centerville High School, 500 E. Franklin St., which will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday, May 8.
The annual senior dance, which is organized by the junior class, will model itself after the classic board game — complete with a murder mystery for participants to solve.
“We’re making the whole building look like an old mansion,” said Barbara Hall, who teaches AP biology and chemistry and is the 2011 class adviser. “The gym itself will look like an old ballroom, with heavy velour and cobwebs.”
Hall said there will be clues to solve the mystery, and cards for students to fill out to submit their guess. The winners will get dinner and movie tickets.
Principal Eileen Booher said CHS is one of the few schools that host their prom on-site.
“The thing I like about having it on-site is that there is a lot of planning, decision-making, organizing and budgeting needed to pull this off,” Booher said, adding that the kids learn a great deal in the process.
Booher added that there is no longer the stigma of not having a date.
She said many kids come in groups.
“It’s all about being with your friends and being at school,” she said.
Booher added that there will be an After Prom event held at the Washington Twp. Recreation Center from 12:30 to 3 a.m. Sunday.
After Prom is open to juniors and seniors, whether they attend the prom or not. Dress is casual.
Tickets for the After Prom are $10 and will be sold at the high school during lunch periods through Friday.
