Do you know a group who accomplished something impressive? If the group won an award, put on a play, conducted a fundraiser or did something else impressive, then send an email to contributing writer Marie Kriedman at writeawayk@gmail.com.
Group: Centerville resident Ray Marcano has been selected for the Fulbright Specialists Program. He will lecture at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. Marcano is the director of digital audience growth for Cox Media Group, which owns the Dayton Daily News. He is also a visiting professor of digital media at Wright State University.
What is it?: The Fulbright Specialists Program was created in 2000 to complement the Fulbright Scholar Program. Marcano left on Saturday for Iceland. He will lecture about how readers absorb content and how technology is affecting journalism.
“(The lecture is) multiple days over two weeks,” Marcano said. “It’s a marvelous opportunity.”
What is he looking forward to most?: "I'm looking forward to the experience of going to Iceland. I hear it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I'm retiring from Cox Media in June and embarking on an educational career. I will be teaching as a full-time faculty at Wright State. I'm hoping I can apply what I learn in Iceland to the classroom at Wright State."
What is the best part?: "It is an outstanding opportunity for people who have a specialty to share their knowledge with others at universities across the world. There is an application process to become involved in the program. If you're accepted they have a number of opportunities."
