Mom killed in crash ID’d; 2 young children flown to hospital

A Troy mother was killed and her two small children were flown by CareFlight to a hospital after a rollover crash on state Route 202 this morning.

Caroline Tucker, 26, was identified as the victim in the crash.

Miami County Sheriff’s deputies said Tucker was driving north on state Route 202 when she went off the road and over-corrected, which caused her Jeep Wrangler to roll in front of Fulton Farms. Tucker was not wearing a seat belt, and she was ejected. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Her two children, ages 3 and 4, were in the backseat. They were talking to first responders on the scene. Deputies said both were properly restrained, although the 4-year-old had unbuckled himself by the time crews arrived on scene.

The children are expected to survive their injuries.

Deputies said a passerby saw dim headlights off the road and was able to flag down a deputy. The Jeep’s windows had frost on them, and deputies don’t know how long it took for the crash to be discovered. Both children were asleep when crews arrived.

Deputies didn’t find any physical evidence of impaired driving and they do not believe speed was a factor.
