Chiropractor looking to build a food mountain

SPRINGBORO — Hunger and food insecurity are real problems for some Springboro area families.

“These statistics are startling. You think of hunger as a problem a far off country might face, not right here in our own community,” said Dr. David Klosterman of Klosterman Chiropractic in Springboro. “My staff and I are dedicated to doing everything we can to combat hunger in our own backyard.”

“Every year we look forward to Dr. Klosterman’s generous donations, it’s always very appreciated,” said Wendy Ford the founder and leader of the Springboro Community Assistance Center.

“He brings in truck loads of food, it’s really amazing, and needed,” she said.

Each November, as part of their Thanks for Giving Promotion, they partner with the SCAC to restock their shelves and provide much needed assistance to the community.

This year’s Thanks for Giving event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17 through Wednesday, Nov. 18, at their office at 250 N. Main St.

The most-needed items include food packaged in plastic or boxed containers, including canned meat, fish, spaghetti, sauce, fruit, vegetables, beans, gravy, powdered milk, 100 percent fruit juice, cold and hot boxed cereal, pancake mix and syrup, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, rice, instant mashed potatoes, coffee and tea. Organizers request that no outdated items be included in the donations. All donations will support the Springboro Community Assistance Center Food Bank who will be distributing food to needy families in the Springboro community.

Springboro wins chamber award

SPRINGBORO — On Monday, Oct. 26, while attending the Springboro Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, Springboro elected officials Jim Chmiel, Sheila Lairson, Marie Belpulsi, Scott Anderson and Tom LaDu learned the City of Springboro had been awarded the “2009 Chamber Member of the Year” award.

Deputy Mayor Jim Chmiel, who accepted the award on the City’s behalf from State Senator Shannon Jones, credited the residents and businesses of the community for the award.

“You cannot have good City Government without the support of the residents and businesses of a community,” said Chmiel. “You are only as good as your constituents, and ours are second to none.”
