Firefighters were called to the two-story, wood-frame house at 4:15 a.m., according to Piqua Fire Capt. Kevin Ganger. When they arrived, all three occupants, including the male taken later taken to the hospital, were outside of the house.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the fire might have started as a result of a female in the home who fell asleep in an upstairs bedroom with a cigarette in her hand. The bed caught on fire and the fire spread.
After firefighters were able to get the fire under control, the upstairs portion of the house was gutted, Ganger said.
An estimated damage cost was not immediately known.
