City council recognizes local residents for achivements

CENTERVILLE — The Centerville City Council devoted much of its July 20 council meeting to recognizing area residents who’ve brought added recognition to the city and/or helped improve it.

The individuals included members of the 2009 Science Olympiad National Champions from Centerville High School; City Beautiful Award winners for June and July; Centerville High School’s Class of 2009 valedictorian, Tae Yeon Kim, and salutatorian, William Tucker; and Eagle Scout Adam Miller.

City Beautiful Award winners are selected by members of the City Beautiful Commission, a volunteer board of citizens, which is currently looking for new members. Applications can be downloaded and completed at www.ci.centerville.oh.us or by calling Debbie James, clerk of council, at 433-7151.

Members drive around the city during the summer looking for homes with outstanding front yard appearance in landscaping, decorating and exterior maintenance. Nominations are also accepted from neighbors. Patty Kraft, commission chairwoman, recently announced the winners for June and July. The June winners were:

• Milton and Joyce Oakley, 2706 Walford Drive;

• Carma and Jim Schieman, 206 Whittington Drive;

• Debbie Brinkman, 8293 Rhine Way;

• Dennis and Terry Clarke, 50 Gulfword Court;

• Mark and Julia Barker, Mark and Julia Barker, 331 Alston Woods;

• Eric Dunhan, 9458 Bonnie Ann Place; and

• Robert and Doris Mays, 364 Yankee Trace Drive.

The July winners were:

• Bob and Judy Servis, 1800 Baldwin Drive;

• Suzanne Perazzo, 5797 Stone Lake Drive;

• Nate and Carol Adams, 1370 Centerville Station Road;

• Patricia Galvin, 134 Martha Ave.;

• Mark Cottom, 306 Zengel Drive;

• Donna Kraft, 9901 Redbarn Trail; and

• Greg and Judy Mescher, 790 Yankee Trace Drive.

The city council also recognized the 2009 Science Olympiad National Champions and coach Penny Valentini of Centerville High School. The champions included CHS students: Sean Behm, Walter Chen, Christina Falugi, Amy Kramer, Neel Patel, John Scheick, Mason Stout, Will Tucker, Anthony Rohrer, Sonali Sharma, Thadd Voss, Sunny Xu, Jeff Behm, Emily Briskin, Seth Cazzell, Carly Graham, Tiffany Wang, Hans Banerjee, Audrey Hall, Kristen Hendricks, Jack Hoehn, Paul Hoehn, Derrick Pemberton, Michael Jacobs, Andrew Kerr, Megan Kramer, Arpan Kumar, Stephanie Sketl, Aaron Zhao and Brian Clark.
