City increases fee for uncut grass

A committee of Troy City Council will recommend an increase in the administrative fee for the city to mow noxious weeds.

The finance committee agreed Monday, Oct. 20, to recommend a flat administrative fee of $100.

The city currently has a 20 percent administrative fee attached to the mowing bill when the city has to have a property mowed due to failure to maintain noxious weeds. The fee for mowing is $28 per hour, making the administrative fee $5.60. The administrative fee does not cover the costs of inspections, contractor notifications and billing, city administrators said.

Because the city bill to mow at $33.60 is less than lawn care companies charge, the city has had numerous requests from property owners for the city to “act as their lawn care service,” Tim Davis, city planning and zoning manager said. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
