This time, however, the spin-off restaurant’s owner is promising to “be back better than ever soon.”

“We are shut down,” Bill Shancey, founder and owner of Shantz Express at at 5993 Bigger Road in south Kettering, confirmed to this news outlet Sunday. “We want to thank our loyal customers for their support. We will be back better than ever soon.”

“I am hoping to have a food truck by late spring, but everything is in limbo right now,” Shancey said.

Shancey said a dispute with a landlord contributed to the closure of the carryout and delivery restaurant.

Michael Sliger, whose family owns the space that housed Shantz Express, said the restaurant was behind on its rent. “We tried to work with him,” Sliger said of Shancey.

Montgomery County online court records show that the state of Ohio obtained four certificates of judgment against Shantz Express for non-payment of sales tax in 2017 and 2018. The most recent judgment, from April 2018, shows a judgment amount of about $13,100.
