Dayton commissioners will vote Wednesday on whether to spend $450,000 on repairs to prevent further deterioration of the Dayton Arcade. An unamed development team also plans to chip-in $250,000 for the project.
In July, a task force that evaluated the condition and redevelopment potential of the Arcade recommended the city pay for repair work to keep the eight-building complex dry and stable.
The task force estimated it would cost the city between $750,000 to $1.9 million over the next three to five years to preserve the buildings and prevent additional weather-related erosion.
Under a proposed contract, the city will pay Miller Valentine Commercial Construction $450,000 for repairs including plugging leaks in the roof, replacing gutters, patching holes and minor structural repairs.
Work on the project should begin this month.
