Demolition work is expected to begin this week for the Century Bar’s much-anticipated 1920’s-style speakeasy.
"This week we are moving forward (on the speakeasy)," said Diane Spitzig, the co-owner of the bourbon house located at 10 S. Jefferson St.
She could not predict when Kette's Kandies Spirited Treats, a Prohibition-era speakeasy-themed cocktail bar, will open to the public but hoped that day would not be too far away.
Like the Century, the new business is in the Fire Block District being developed by The Ellway Group.
When complete, Kette's will operate in a 2,000-square-foot space behind the Century and be about 600 square feet larger than that bar, Joseph Head, co-owner, told our entertainment partners at Dayton.com in December.
Kette's will focus on mixology; Century Bar specializes in whisky and bourbon.
Spitzig’s 20th anniversary as owner of the Century Bar will be celebrated at the bar 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday.
