Coronavirus: Slight uptick in deaths reported in Miami Valley

The Ohio Department of Health is reporting a slight uptick in deaths in the Miami Valley linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

Miami County has the most deaths with 27. Of those, 22 are associated with an outbreak of cases at two nursing homes: Koester Pavilion in Troy and SpringMeade Health Center in Tipp City, spokeswoman Vicky Knisley-Henry of Miami County Public Health said.

The deaths involve 14 women and 13 men: 18 were 80 or older; five between 70 and 79; three between 60 and 69 and one between 50 and 59. In all, there were 138 cases in the county with 49 hospitalizations, the ODH reported.

Darke County, which also had a cluster of cases at a nursing home, Greenville Health & Rehabilitation Center, has 14 deaths. They involve four women and 10 men: nine were 80 or older; four between 70 and 79; and one between 60 and 69. The county has 76 cases with 14 hospitalizations, according to ODH data.

Warren County has the third most deaths, with 11. They involve four women and seven men, with eight 80 or older and three between 70 and 79. The county has 134 cases with 26 hospitalizations, state data shows.

Montgomery County has 10 deaths split evenly among men and women with five deaths each. Of those, six were of people 80 or older; three were between 60 and 69; and one was between 50 and 59. The county has 279 cases with 89 hospitalizations, the ODH reported.

Butler County has seven deaths involving three women and four men. Of those who died, two were 80 or older; three between 70 and 79; and two between 60 and 69. The county has 261 cases with 74 hospitalizations, state data shows.

Greene County has four deaths, split evenly among men and women with two deaths each. Of those, one was 80 or older; two were between 60 and 69; and one was between 50 and 59. The county has 46 cases with nine hospitalizations, according to ODH data.

Clark and Preble counties each have two deaths.

In Clark County, the deaths involve one woman and one man, with one 80 or older and the second between 30 and 39. The county has 51 cases with 10 hospitalizations.

In Preble County, the deaths also involve one woman and one man. One was between 70 and 79 and the other between 60 and 69. The county has 27 cases with five hospitalizations, the ODH reported.

Champaign County has one death of a woman between 50 and 59. There are 14 cases with two hospitalizations, ODH data shows.
