UPDATE @ 2:15 a.m: Residents of a home on West Garland Avenue were displaced after their house caught fire early Friday morning, fire officials confirm.

Crews were dispatched to the 100 block and found flames and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home around 1:20 a.m.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire.

The occupants were able to escape unharmed, but cannot return to the home today, according to officials.

It is unknown if the American Red Cross will be contacted to aid in displacement.

Many details about the blaze, including how it started and damage estimates, are still under investigation.

Dayton Power & Light personnel were requested to the scene.

Initial reports indicate heavy smoke was coming from the structure in the 100 block around 1:20 a.m.

Evacuation of the home was also in progress, according to emergency scanner traffic.
