SPRINGBORO — The competition team from All That Dance in Springboro returned home from the VIP Dance National Championship with three national titles, four grand championship awards and multiple high score and choreography awards.
The championship was held June 28 to July 2 in Sandusky, with nearly 30 dance studios and more than 800 dancers. The studio, at 815 W. Central Ave., won two of the top 10 spots in the Hollywood Division Teen Small Group competition, including National Title and first place overall for its contemporary number, “Untitled,” with dancers Hannah Brenneman, Adam Houston, Alex Hutton and Delaney Ikirt.
The studio’s owner, Laura Baker, won a choreography award for that routine.
All That Dance also claimed 10th place in the category with “Rain,” a jazz routine, with dancers Brenneman, Houston, Alex Hutton, Ikirt, Hanna Halverson, Brandon Hutton and Brooke Profitt.
All That Dance received second place overall in the Hollywood Division Teen Large Group category with “Dreaming” (Brenneman, Halverson, Houston, Alex Hutton, Brandon Hutton, Ikirt, Profitt, Katie Campbell, Kayla Fry, Tayler Holiga, Michele Pachiano, Sarah Basinger, Alyssa Jagodzinski, Olivia Mescher, Tori Pachiano, Megan Sizemore, Lauren Walters and Mia Williams).
The studio placed fifth overall in this category with their hip hop routine, “So Fresh” (Campbell, Alex Hutton, Brandon Hutton, Fry, Holiga, Michele Pachiano, Basinger, Jagodzinski, Tori Pachiano, Williams, Megan Schmidt, Olivia Fox and Jenna Inskeep).
In the Hollywood Division Junior Small Group category, the studio placed 10th overall with its musical theater routine, “Thirteen” (Basinger, Jagodzinski, Mescher, Tori Pachiano, Schmidt, Sizemore, Walters, Williams and Annie Sickinger).
Soloists place in overall awards
Six soloists from All That Dance placed in the Hollywood Division overall awards.
In the senior category, Houston placed second overall out of approximately 100 routines for “Somebody,” a dance he choreographed.
He also won a choreography award for this solo.
Brandon Hutton placed seventh overall in the senior category and won a “Mr. Broadway” judge’s award.
In the teen solo category, Brenneman was awarded National Title and first place overall from among approximately 100 numbers for her solo “Words,” choreographed by All That Dance faculty member Olivia Policicchio.
Alex Hutton received second place overall with her solo “Stay.”
In the Junior division, Williams placed ninth overall with “Dream.”
Jagodzinski placed fourth in the mini division for “Nothin’ Wrong.”
This routine, choreographed by instructor Jennifer Reese also received a choreography award.
Duets and trios also place well
All That Dance’s duet and trio routines also captured top awards.
In the Hollywood senior division, Houston and Brenneman won National Title and first place overall for “Trust,” and second place overall for “Man vs. Earth.”
In the teen division, every duet or trio entered by All That Dance placed in the top 10 overall. “You Know I’ve Been a Liar” (Brandon Hutton, Profitt) placed third overall, “Dancing Flames” (Brandon Hutton, Alex Hutton) placed fifth, “But We Do” (Brenneman, Alex Hutton, Ikirt) placed sixth, “Let Me Think About It” (Alex Hutton, Williams) placed eighth and “Wishbone,” (Alex Hutton, Ikirt) placed 10th.
In the Hollywood junior division, “Sunshine” (Jagodzinski, Tori Pachiano) placed eighth overall.
Taking home grand championships
At the end of the week’s competition, the top scoring solos, duet/trios and groups from across all age and performance divisions performed a second time for grand championship honors.
The group routine “Dreaming” was awarded second place out of the top 20 high-scoring groups, and the studio was awarded a $750 prize.
“Untitled” received sixth place in the grand championship.
In the solo category, the top five high-scoring numbers from all age groups were eligible to compete for the grand championship, and three of the five finalists were from All That Dance: Brenneman, Houston and Alex Hutton. Brenneman won the grand championship and the title of Hollywood Icon.
All That Dance had two of the five high-scoring acts in the duet/trio category with the grand championship and title of Hollywood Co-Stars going to “Trust” (Houston, Brenneman).
“Trust” was choreographed by Season One “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant Destini Rogers and was awarded the top choreography award of the entire competition.
Doing well in the Broadway Division
All That Dance performers also received numerous awards in the Broadway Division. Lauren Kot placed second overall with “Sunshine on my Shoulders” and Emma Halverson placed third with “My Boyfriend’s Back” in the Broadway Division mini solo category.
Hayley Dues received second place overall in the Broadway Division teen solo category with “Wanted.”
In the Broadway Division mini small group category, the studio placed third overall with “Material Girl” (Maggie Biltz, Halverson, Krysta McKenzie, Claire Pachiano, Isabel Pachiano, Kaylee Plummer and Janis Rudisill).
In the Broadway Division junior small group category, All That Dance received fifth place overall with “Something Better,” eighth place with “The River” and ninth place with “Trouble” (Dues, Olivia Fox, Kirsten Hammons, Jenna Inskeep, Kot, Rosie Mount, Cheyenne Plummer, Jennifer Sperry and Elizabeth Zech).
