In a news release the city of Dayton issued Wednesday, July 1, Howington stated, “I have very mixed emotions about leaving Dayton and accepting the city manager position in Kalispell.”
Her resignation is effective July 30.
She said personal family considerations, as well as new challenges, prompted the move.
Howington joined local government as assistant city manager in June 2007. Prior to that, she served as city manager of Oxford, Ohio, in Butler County.
“Jane has been a very important part of our leadership team over the two years,” City Manager Rashad Young said.
“Despite budget constraints, she has provided a steady hand for front-line operating departments struggling to reduce costs while delivering high quality services.
“I appreciate her service to Dayton, but I also understand her desire to find a position that better fits her family obligations at this time. We wish her the best of luck in all that she does.”
Young said he will be re-evaluating the duties of the assistant city manager position before making any moves to replace Howington.
