Dayton police have located a car Trotwood police have been looking for since it reportedly was taken from the garage of a home where a man was found slain in late November.
Police have been looking for the car since the weekend of Thanksgiving, when Kevin Colter, 54, was pronounced dead in his home, in the 700 block of Ellsworth Drive, the afternoon of Nov. 24. He had been stabbed multiple times. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has ruled Colter’s death a homicide.
According to information to police from an anonymous tip, a 2012 gray Honda Civic was found Monday morning in the 200 block of Delaware Avenue in Dayton. The car was unoccupied and locked, parked blocking a garage at the Delaware Avenue address.
Officers had been dispatched to the avenue on a complaint about an abandoned vehicle in the ally behind the address where the car was located.
The officers who located the car checked its registration and found it to have been entered into the Law Enforcement Automated Data System as "stolen taken in a homicide/stabbing."
There was no suspect information included in the incident report.
