3 Dayton police officers promoted; ceremony altered by coronavirus

Three Dayton police officers are being promoted Monday in a ceremony that will be downsized because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The promotion ceremony will be Monday, May 11, in city commission chambers in City Hall. Each officer will have an individual ceremony, which will not be open to the public and attendance will be limited to only those necessary in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

The officers being promoted are: 

- Lt. Paul Saunders will be promoted to the rank of major and will become chief of staff.

- Sgt. John Riegel will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will be assigned to the East Patrol Operations Division as the night watch commander.

- Officer Daniel Perkins will be promoted to the rank of sergeant and be assigned to the West Patrol Operations Division.
