Dayton Shooting: Victim Nicholas Cumer to be laid to rest in Pennsylvania

Funeral services for Nicholas Cumer, 25, one of the nine people killed in a shooting in Dayton’s Oregon District, will begin Thursday in Pennsylvania.

Visitation is from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home in Washington, Pa. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. All other services are private.

Cumer was a graduate student in the Miami Valley for an internship at Maple Tree Cancer Alliance.

He was in Saint Francis University’s Master of Cancer Care program.

“Nicholas was dedicated to caring for others. He was recognized at the 2019 Community Engagement Awards among students who had completed 100+ hours of service,” said Saint Francis University President Fr. Malachi Van Tassell. “In addition he was a graduate assistant with the university marching band.”
