Hundreds of teachers with Dayton Public Schools gathered at UD Arena on Tuesday morning to kick off the 2014-2015 school year. However, there were dozens of teachers who picketed outside the arena as negotiations are in process.

Dayton teachers protest at convocation

The Dayton Education Association members wore red and held signs outside UD Arena around 8 a.m.

Sandra Gavin, negotiations chair for the union, said the protest was to "show solidarity" amid contract negotiations with the district.

Superintendent Lori Ward is set to address about 2,000 employees and guests during the event, according to an announcement about convocation from the school district.
