Crews were dispatched to Gina’s Party Store II at 2226 Germantown Street around 6:40 p.m. on a report of a man shot.
The unidentified victim is now at Miami Valley Hospital with life-threatening injuries as authorities work to find a suspect, according to Sgt. Randy Beane.
The man was shot while outside of the store before running in and asking the staff to call 9-1-1.
Beane said the man then ran back outside and collapsed in front of the store, having suffered at least one gunshot wound to the back.
It is unknown how many times the man was shot, but Beane said witnesses in the area told police they heard as many as three shots before crews arrived. No witness reported seeing the shooting.
“Right now we’re going to have to rely a lot on the surveillance and hopefully some witnesses will come forward with some information,” Beane said.
“It’s a very busy parking lot with several people out so hopefully someone saw something.”
Multiple regional police crews were called to assist for an unrelated manhunt in the same area Monday evening.
A witness in the area told our crew shootings have happened near the Germantown Street business in the past.
“It needs to stop; it’s as simple as that.”
Monday night’s shooting marks the third shooting of the year reported near the store.
In April, Dayton police investigated a shots-fired incident outside of the business in which a signal 99 - or call for countywide police assistance - was issued when an unknown gunman fired shots into an occupied vehicle.
