Miamisburg’s new dog park will host a pair of canine events this weekend in partnership with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and Miamisburg.
The city’s Bark in the Burg and the Humane Society’s 8th Annual 5k-9 Run, Walk and Wag are set to happen June 29 at Community Park, a 42-acre facility at 550 S. First St. and the site of the new dog park.
The dog park will open June 28, according to Miamisburg officials.
The course for the humane society event starts and ends in Community Park. Dogs and their companions will travel south along the recreation trail, east on Vanguard Boulevard and then loop back to Community Park. There will be plenty of water stations along the way for both dogs and their owners, according to organizers.
The registration fee is $25. One- and two-mile and 5k-run and 5k-walk divisions are available.
Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each age group and top three overall. Microchipped timing, door prizes and refreshments will be available.
Race packets, check-in and on-site registration begin at 7 a.m. race day at the park. The race will begin at 8 a.m. with Bark in the Burg following until 11 a.m., according to organizers.
For the safety of all participants, only one dog per runner/walker is allowed. All dogs must be on a leash, not to exceed six feet and the city asks that retractable leashes not be used.
Organizers are asking to make sure all dogs are at least 6 months old, wear current ID tags and are up to date on all shots. Please do not bring female dogs in season or dogs needing muzzles. Owners will be responsible for cleaning up after their furry friend. Bags will be provided.
