DP&L doubles its offer for old refrigerators to $50 for recycling

DAYTON — Dayton Power and Light Co. is offering customers $50, instead of the usual $25, for each old, working refrigerator or freezer scheduled for pickup in July and August by the utility, under its appliance recycling program to promote energy conservation.

DP&L will pick up the old appliance for free and send the customer a $50 check. The company’s residential customers may call toll-free to (877) 545-4112 or register online at www.dpandl.com/save to schedule a free pickup.

The $50 offer is to celebrate the recycling of 5,000 refrigerators through the program so far, DP&L said. A contractor, JACO Environmental Inc., recycles the refrigerators.

Since 2009, residential customers have received a total of $125,000 from the appliance recycling program, company officials said. Old, inefficient appliances can cost $150 a year to operate, DP&L said.
