Downtown Waynesville to lose water pressure

WAYNESVILLE — Portions of downtown will lose water service for short periods of time over the next two weeks as the village replaces fire hydrants and water valves, officials said.

Portions of downtown Waynesville will have short periods when the water service to accommodate the replacement of water valves and fire hydrants, according to Angela Tipton, utilities department manager.

The affected area — mainly encompassing Waynesville’s downtown and its historic antique shops — includes Fourth Street to the north, Ohio 73 to the west, U.S. 42 to the south and Church Street and Franklin Road to the east, along with an additional portion of North Main Street running beyond Church Street.

The construction will begin Dec. 27 and last for approximately two weeks, Tipton said.

Residents who experience a shut-off should boil their water for a short amount of time before drinking it.

The project will allow Waynesville’s utilities department to isolate potential problems to smaller areas in the future and not have to use major water shut-offs in the event of water main breaks or other problems, Tipton said.

Waynesville’s website will be updated regarding when and where the shut-offs and boil advisories will occur. Concerned residents can visit www.waynesville-ohio.org or call (513) 897-3200.
