In the 1970s, district enrollment declined from 8,200 students to just more than 5,000. Enrollment declined more in the early 1980s. In 1981, the district closed Mad River Elementary and Page Manor I. Wagner School was sold. After being closed, Mad River Elementary housed the Miami Valley Special Education Regional Resource Center. However, it has been vacant in recent years and used for storage.
While it’s sad to say goodbye to a school that was good to so many people, it is important to remember that the value of this building was not it the bricks and mortar, but in the hearts of the faculty, staff, and students who worked and learned there for so many years.
Mike Eaglowski is the superintendent of the Mad River School District.
