Eric Burris is new police chief

Eric Burris was sworn in as Tipp City’s new police chief Sept. 3 before the City Council.

He fills the post vacated with the late April death of Tom Davidson, who was chief more than 20 years.

Davidson’s wife, Jan, held the Bible during the swearing in by Mayor Dee Gillis as Burris’ wife, Tanya, and daughter, Kristina, looked on. Burris, a Tippecanoe High School graduate, has been with the department 18 years.

Burris said he was honored to be appointed the new chief and overwhelmed by the support he has received in the community since his appointment Aug. 20. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
