Family cat perishes in Kettering house fire

UPDATE @ 8:25 p.m.: A family cat has perished in the Kettering house fire on Tiffany Drive and investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze that caused substantial damage to the home, fire department Battalion Chief Jim Lokai said.

The husband and wife were outside when crews arrived to find flames on the side of the house, Lokai said, noting that investigators have determined that the laundry room is the point of origin.

The residents will have to find lodging for the night because of the amount of smoke and fire damage, Lokai said. He said the investigators will determine the estimated dollar amount lost in terms of damage to the structure and contents.

FIRST REPORT

Crews remain on the scene of a house fire in the 3600 block of Tiffany Drive.

The fire produced a lot of smoke, but there are no reports of any injuries.

Kettering fire crews were dispatched about 6:15 p.m. on a report of a fire in a one-story structure.
