A gaping hole showed part of the blackened remnants of the fire on one side of the barn.
Germantown Fire Chief Dan Alldred said the fire possibly started from a wood burning fireplace.
Alldred said the family was home at the time but everyone got out safely.
It's unclear why the people were living in a barn. They will be staying with relatives who live nearby.
A damage estimate was not available Saturday.
