Can you ID suspect who robs Family Dollar, grabs clerk by mouth?

Police released surveillance photos today of the suspect in the Wednesday robbery at Family Dollar.

The suspect, described as a male between 17 and 20 years old, stands 5 feet 9 inches and appeared bulky but could have been wearing multiple layers of clothing that make it seem that way, police said.

Around 9 a.m., he entered Family Dollar, 3222 Salem Ave., and walked around the store for about 10 minutes before he confronted a clerk with a handgun, police said. He forced the clerk to the back of the store before forcing her back to the front, where he left with money from the cash register.

The suspect carried a distinct blue backpack and was wearing a deep red or possibly maroon knit cap.

FIRST REPORT

A man robbed the Family Dollar store at the corner of Salem and West Hillcrest avenues and grabbed the clerk working at the store by the mouth, police said.

The man entered the business and walked around before approaching the clerk, who was sitting at a computer desk.

“(He) came up from behind her, grabbed her by the mouth, led her away from that computer desk and led her to the cash register,” said Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman with the Dayton Police Department.

The suspect displayed a gun a when he robbed the store around 9:25 a.m., Coleman said.

The suspect was described as a male, approximately 17-19 years old, weighing around 150 pounds and wearing all dark clothing, according to reports.  The suspect also was said to be wearing gloves and had a turquoise backpack, reports indicated.

The clerk was not injured in the robbery, according to reports.
