Vandalia Pizza Hut reopens following small electrical fire

UPDATE @ 10:04 p.m.

A bird's nest located in an outdoor light fixture led fire crews to evacuate a Vandalia Pizza Hut Monday night.

Firefighters said the fire was contained to a small section of the building. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

Guests evacuated the building around 9:15 p.m. as crews worked to locate and extinguish the fire.

Fewer than three employees were in the building at the time it was evacuated and damage is estimated to be less than $100.

Our crew at the scene reports the restaurant is now open.

EARLIER REPORT (March 6)

Vandalia fire crews are responding to a reported fire Monday evening.

Firefighters were sent to Pizza Hut in the 300 block of East National Road on a report of a fire.

Initial reports indicate the fire may be coming from an electrical outlet in the restaurant.

Smoke can be seen in the area and patrons are being evacuated from the building.
