When crews arrived to the house in the 200 block of Morgan Avenue around 1 a.m., flames and smoke engulfed the area.
The homeowner was at a neighbor's house across the street when he noticed the fire, according to Trotwood Fire Chief Rick Haccke.
Haacke said the owner's dog died in the fire and described the home as a total loss.
According to Haacke, the owner does not permanently live at the address and will continue to stay with a neighbor he currently lives with.
Our crew reports a fire investigator is at the scene now attempting to determine a cause for the fire.
