Fire extinguished at I-75 rest area

MONROE — Authorities extinguished a recreational vehicle fire that occurred about Tuesday afternoon at the southbound I-75 rest area, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Charles Sheehan, of Oklahoma, noticed smoke coming from his motor home about 2 p.m. after pulling into the rest area, said Trooper Jessica McIntyre of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Sheehan was able to get his wife, the couple’s two dogs and a bird from the burning vehicle without injury, McIntyre said.

Units from the Monroe and Liberty Twp. fire departments extinguished the blaze, McIntyre said. The vehicle was totaled and the cause of the fire is unknown, she said.

The vehicle the couple was towing behind the motor home was undamaged and the fire did not affect any other vehicles at the rest area, McIntyre said.
