Officials with Gordon Foods Service (GFS) said they anticipate making "significant upgrades" to their Salem Avenue location to make room for more fresh produce, vegetables, baked goods, meats, and in-store rotisserie and roasted chicken.

The announcement came Thursday from Trotwood, where city officials, in a prepared statement, said they have been in discussions with GFS about expanding its wholesale grocery model to include retail options.

GFS officials said the expansion is in response to growing demand in the Trotwood area for access to fresh and healthy foods.

GFS officials also said they have been working with Trotwood's planning and economic development departments to coordinate a new left-turn break from state Route 49 into the Salem Avenue location.

Online ordering, along with an in-store pickup service, is to be offered as well, GFS officials said.

Next week, Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald, City Manager Quincy Pope and Trotwood Community Improvement Corp. officials are to travel to Detroit to tour a GFS grocery that is similar to the model being proposed for the Trotwood store.
