“With the way the economy is, people want to get a lot of value out,” Dillon said. “We’ll try to give the best price we can.”
Ohio Valley Gold & Silver has set up shop at the Warren County FOP Lodge, 1343 W. Ohio 122. People can bring in items to sell or an appraisal — and if they can’t appraise it, Dillon said they can give you an idea of what it’s cost or an offer. Dillon said the average U.S. household has about $750 worth of scrap gold around.
“We enjoy when people come in,” he said.
The popularity of shows like “Antiques Road Show” on PBS and “Pawn Stars” on the History Channel have increased the interest people have in THR and Ohio Valley Gold & Silver. Dillon said Ohio Valley Gold & Silver tries to have an appearance in the region once every three to four months.
Debbie and Chip Spayd of Centerville had the time to get a few pieces appraised — diamond earrings, a brass candelabra, a cocktail ring and a Japanese military katana. This is the first time the couple had been out to a roadshow-type event and were curious.
“You could look things up online, but you never know what the value is,” Debbie Spayd said.
“We kind of wanted to get an idea of what they were worth,” Chip Spayd said.
Ohio Valley Gold & Silver will be at the Warren County FOP Lodge from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more, call (217) 726-7590.
