Antioch College to host annual tribute to Coretta Scott King

Antioch College will present the Annual Coretta Scott King Commemoration at the Foundry Theater at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 27.

The keynote speaker for the event is former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner. The World House Choir will perform. The event is free and open to the public.

The Coretta Scott King Center at Antioch College is a community resource designed to promote the conditions on campus for multiculturalism, anti-racism, and engagement with issues of power and privilege to educate faculty, staff and students towards an inclusive community.

Parks & Trails hosting program April 23

The Greene County Parks & Trails will host its last Winter Speaking Series program, Gardening for Pollinators, at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 23, at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2575 Indian Ripple Road.

Participants will learn what to plant to attract pollinators to their backyard gardens, including Monarch butterflies and Spicebush swallowtail butterflies.

The session costs $5, with registration required one week prior to the program.

Activities planned for Military Child month

Wright-Patterson is planning several activities as part of its recognition of April being Month of the Military Child.

The base and surrounding communities are celebrating children from military families who on average move six to nine times during their K-12 years.

Activities for this year include focusing on why it is important to choose a healthy lifestyle. Some of the activities include:

  • Haiku, rapping and freestyle poetry with a focus on being a military child, culminating in a Wright-On Poetry Slam Family Night, from 6 to 8 p.m. April 15, Prairies Youth Center, Bldg. 234, Area B.
  • Kittyhawk Lanes, bowing center in Kittyhawk Center, is offering discounted rates the entire month to children 12 and younger. They can bowl for $1.50 per game with 50 cents shoe rental.
  • Fuel Up to Play 60 event for children diagnosed with autism on April 20, coordinated by the 88th Medical Group and other programs.
