City hosting Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday

The city of Beavercreek’s Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Park, 1911 N. Fairfield Road.

Colonel John M. Devillier, 88th Air Base Wing and Installation Commander, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is the guest speaker.

The public is invited to attend. Parking is available on Fairwood Drive and at the Church of the Nazarene. Limited bleacher seating is available. Lawn chairs are welcome.

Community basketball shootout set for Friday

The second annual Fairborn Community Basketball Shootout is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the Baker Middle School Gymnasium, 200 Lincoln Drive.

Members of the Fairborn Police Department will play members of the city’s Fire Department at 6 p.m., followed by a performance by Fairborn cheerleaders and an inter-squad competition between the boys basketball players. There will be games with audience participation, food, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.

Cost is $5 for adults and students, and children under 10 are free.

WSU physician to talk about rotator cuff tears

Wright State Physicians Orthopaedics will offer an educational session, “Rotator Cuff Tear: A Common but Confusing Cause of Shoulder Pain,” on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in Classroom 1 on the second floor of the Wright State Physicians Health Center on the campus of Wright State University. The center’s address is 725 University Blvd.

The session is free and open to the public.

Dr. Matthew DiPaola will speak about how rotator cuff tears are one of the most common causes of shoulder pain in adults and nonsurgical options for treatment.

DiPaola is a fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow surgeon with Wright State Physicians Orthopaedics and an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Parks & Rec hosting Thanksgiving centerpiece class

The Fairborn Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Thanksgiving centerpiece class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Hollon Flowers, 50 N. Central Ave.

The fee is $40. The class is for those 18 years and older. Step-by-step instructions will be provided, and all flowers and materials are included in the fee.

The registration deadline is Nov. 17.
