City hires new police officer
Desiree Malone was sworn in on Monday as the newest officer for the Fairborn Police Department.
Malone, 25, attended Kaplan College, graduating in 2011 with a degree in criminal justice. Malone worked for the Lebanon Correctional Institute until a position opened with the Montgomery County Sheriff office.
While working there, she enrolled in the Greene County Career Center Criminal Justice Academy, where she earned her Ohio Peace Officer Certification.

Portion of Ridgecliff Drive to close
A portion of Ridgecliff Drive will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until Friday, to replace a drainage tile located between 4089 and 4090 Ridgecliff Drive.

Young naturalists to meet on Mondays
Future naturalists are invited to attend Greene County Parks & Trails Young Naturalist Club, which will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, and Monday, Aug. 31, at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2575 Indian Ripple Road, Beavercreek.
The club will also be planning several field trips as they explore the outdoors together.
The club is open to those 13 to 18 years old. Cost is $5 per participant per session.

Farmers market open today
The Fairborn Farmers’ Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the corner of Grand Avenue and Main Street in the Fifth-Third Commons lot.
In addition to local home-grown produce, shoppers can find goat’s milk soap and lotions, items made from alpaca fur, items made with bee pollen, flowers and floral arrangements, and homemade baked goods.
Parking at Fifth-Third Commons is prohibited by anyone other than vendors on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. through mid-afternoon. Parking for shoppers is available on the streets that surround the market. STAFF REPORT

All classes, all schools reunion picnic planned
As a part of Xenia’s Community Festival the third weekend in September, an independent group of citizens is having an all classes reunion and homecoming.
The noon picnic at Shawnee Park on Saturday, Sept. 19 is for anyone from Xenia who went to school at any local high school, including, but not limited to, Xenia High, Carroll, Greene Vocational or Xenia Woodrow Wilson.
