Have a live Christmas tree? Chipping, recycling options abound

Butler County residents can recycle their live Christmas trees using several community composting and chipping programs, according to the county.

Alternatively, area trash haulers can also remove trees at the curb for disposal with the regular trash, according to the county.

Residents should remove all decorations before recycling or disposing of their tree. Those areas participating, according to the county, include:

• City of Hamilton – Curbside collection for Christmas trees will begin Jan. 3 and will continue the first two weeks in January. The city will turn the trees into chips and mulch. To schedule a pick up call (513) 785-7580 or visit www.hamilton-city.org for more details.

• City of Fairfield - Waterworks Park on Groh Lane will be accepting trees from Dec. 27-Jan. 8. The city will chip the trees to produce mulch for the parks. Residents also may keep mulch for use around their house if they bring the tree from 8 a.m. to noon on Jan. 8. Call (513) 867-5348 or visit www.fairfield-city.org for more information.

• City of Monroe - Every Friday from Jan. 7 through Feb. 4, the city of Monroe will offer curbside pickup of trees for Monroe residents. The city will turn the trees into mulch. Call (513) 727-8953 for more information.

• City of Oxford – Residents may leave trees at the curb through Jan. 21. Trees will be picked up for composting on regularly scheduled refuse collection days.

•West Chester Twp. – Drop off trees at Keehner Park, 7411 Barrett Road (tennis court area) or Beckett Park, 8650 Union Centre Blvd. (soccer field area) from Dec. 25-Jan. 31. Other disposal and recycling options

•Middletown and Trenton - Residents may leave trees at the curb for pickup by Rumpke as part of their regular trash collection. Call (513) 425-1860 for more information.

• Rumpke customers can leave trees at the curb for pickup with trash. Call Rumpke at (513) 742-2900 to see if Rumpke considers your tree a “large” item. If so, you’ll need to schedule for a special pickup in your area.

• CSI customers should call for a $10 ticket for tree collection. Contact CSI at (513) 771-4200.

• Tri-State Landscape Supply (formerly Mulch Plus), at 2864 Cincinnati Dayton Road will accept trees for composting from Butler County residents, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. week days and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. There is a $10 fee. Call (513) 423-8723 for details.
