Holiday at Home queen to be crowned July 24

KETTERING — Seventeen ladies will compete Friday, July 24, for the title of Queen during the 2009 Holiday at Home Pageant, according to Bill Tschirhart, event spokesman.

The pageant will be at 6 p.m. in Fairmont High School’s Auditorium, 3301 Shroyer Road. The event is free and open to the public.

The female contestants, who range from ages 17 to 21, come from the cities of Kettering, Beavercreek, Xenia, Moraine, Centerville, Miamisburg and Bellbrook.

“There will be four princesses and one Queen,” Tschirhart said.

The Holiday at Home Pageant committee will also give away up to $10,000 in scholarship money to the Queen and her court.

There also will be a recipient of the Skip Lowe Award, for “the highest number of points from the judges during the interview portion held prior to the pageant,” Tschirhart said. “Points are based on each candidate’s volunteer involvement in the community, school or church.”

The Queen, also known as Miss Holiday at Home, and her court will “reign” over the Holiday at Home Labor Day weekend festivities.

Last year, Katrina Baker, a student at the Ohio State University, was crowned Queen out of 16 contestants.

Friday’s pageant will feature Dan Edwards, reporter and anchor for WDTN-Channel 2 and Kim Faris, radio personality for WLQT-Lite 99.9 FM.
