Honda dealership owned by Big Red Machine player to open this fall

Joe Morgan, former Reds second baseman and analyst for ESPN, is majority owner.

MONROE — Work is on overdrive at a new car dealership off Ohio 63 scheduled to open this fall.

Joe Morgan Honda is expecting to unveil its new dealership on Garver Road sometime in October, said Dick Lange, general manager of the dealership.

He said there still remains work to be done at the dealership, named after majority owner Joe Morgan, the Hall of Famer and former second baseman for the Cincinnati Reds and baseball analyst for ESPN. It will be located in the Warren County portion of Monroe on about 4.5 acres just south of Treasure Aisles — formerly known as Turtle Creek Flea Market — off Ohio 63 and Interstate 75.

Lange said about 85 percent of the exterior work on the dealership is complete.

“We’ve got a lot of ground work to do, and we’ll have to finish up the inside. We’ve got all the walls done and the floors poured, but we’ve got to put the windows and the doors in, and we have to do all the finishing touches. All the internal stuff,” he said.

The dealership’s official website, joemorganhonda.com, is up and running, Lange said.

“If anyone is interested in working there, there is a place to put an application down. We’re gathering potential employees’ applications, and we’ll probably be interviewing sometime (around) the first of August and the beginning of September,” he said.

Lange said the dealership plans to hire 30 to 35 people to fill such positions as parts, sales and service manager, service technicians, cashier, warranty clerk, receptionist, salespeople, service advisers, shuttle driver, parts counter person and lots technician.

The project calls for a 28,553-square-foot automobile sales and service area for full-service work. He said the dealership, which will sell new and Honda certified used cars, also is looking into building a collision center at the facility after the initial opening.

Kevin Chesar, the director of development for Monroe, said the project will include 167,467 feet of outdoor sales area and $3.5 million in real property value improvements.
