Illinois trooper struck, killed is Dayton native, former Madison HS student

An Illinois state trooper struck and killed outside his patrol car this weekend is a Dayton native and former Madison High School student.

Christopher Lambert, 34, stopped to help Saturday after he came across a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 294 on his way home. Another driver around 4:45 p.m. failed to stop and struck Lambert while he was outside his cruiser. He was taken to Glenbrook Hospital, where he died of his injuries a few hours later, according to the Illinois State Police.

Lambert grew up in Dayton and attended the former Allen Elementary School and Madison High School near Middletown, police said.

He began his career with the ISP in 2013. At the time of his passing, he was assigned to the District 15 Criminal Patrol Team in Downers Grove, a suburb of Chicago.

“Throughout his career with the ISP, Trooper Lambert was recognized for his hard work, criminal interdiction efforts, and for being a rising leader among his peers,” the ISP stated.

Prior to joining the ISP, Lambert served eight years in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, 1-year-old daughter and his parents. Services will be this week in Illinois.
