Troopers struggled briefly Friday morning with a man who they said tried to lunge away from them during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 near Piqua and County Road 25-A.

The traffic stop happened around 10 a.m. and as a trooper approached he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, said Lt. Mark Nichols with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

As troopers were taking the driver into custody, a bag of pills fell out of the driver’s pocket, when the driver tried to lunge to get the pills to eat them, Nichols said.

Troopers were able to arrest the man and he was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center near Troy.

Charges in the case are pending and the suspect’s name was not immediately available.
