Jail inmate in Indiana found dead

An autopsy has been ordered for a 44-year-old Fayette County Jail inmate found dead in his cell on Monday, the Indiana State Police said.

Michael Green, incarcerated since July 23 on a charge of burglary, was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner, according to the ISP Pendleton Post. A preliminary investigation suggests that Green took his own life, according to the ISP and the coroner’s office.

Inmates and jail staff found the Connersville resident in his cell, unresponsive, at about 5:30 p.m. Medical staff at the jail attempted to revive him.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted Tuesday, as the investigation is ongoing. Questions about the autopsy results should be directed to the coroner’s office.
