Kettering gamer bar poised to expand, open new gaming shop

Space adjacent to D20 in south Kettering

A Kettering gaming bar is branching out to open a new retail gaming store.

"We signed the lease today," Andrew Sparks, co-founder with his wife Chrissy Sparks of D20: A Bar with Characters gamer pub in the Oak Creek Plaza in Kettering, told this news outlet Monday, April 15.

The 1,400-square-foot space is adjacent to their existing business at 2144 E. Whipp Road in Kettering. Initial plans call for the new business to be a retail gaming store that will have a special emphasis on locally developed games.

“Dayton has a ton of game designers and beta testers and developers, but they don’t have very many places to sell,” Sparks said. “We want to focus on locally made stuff.”

It is possible the space between the existing D20 bar and Peking Garden Asian restaurant will someday be utilized as part of an expansion of the bar itself, or to sell beer at retail, but Sparks said the business will have to navigate some regulatory and licensing issues to make that happen.

If all goes well, the new retail gaming store could open in two or three months, Sparks said.

D20: A Bar with Characters opened in December 2016 with a focus on board, table-top and card games and 20 taps with craft beers, ciders, meads and cocktails.
