JUST IN: Popular concert series NOT canceled in downtown Dayton

The show very well may go on at one of downtown Dayton’s most popular new attractions.

Organizations are trying to work out how.

Levitt Pavilion Dayton Executive Director Lisa Wagner said she plans to consult county public health officials about a safety plan draft that would allow for free concerts to be held at the outdoor venue at Dave Hall Plaza.

"We just don't want to give up hope that there will be live music and that we will be able to provide live, free music," she said. "We are looking at every possible angle, but we are not saying it is over yet."

If not for the coronavirus pandemic that caused restrictions to crowd sizes and other public safety measures,

the 2020 Eichelberger Concert Season at the Levitt

would have kicked off its third season today, Thursday, May 28.

A season lineup was not announced.

Wagner said she and her team will monitor the coronavirus rates and public health guidelines to determine the safest way to proceed.

“You only get one shot,” she said. “You want to do it well.”

If things go well in the state, the season lineup could be announced in late June with shows resuming in July or August, she said.

If concerts are able to be held, guidelines will be established and those who violate those rules will be asked to leave.

“There won’t be a lot of wiggle room about health,” she said.

Some shows planned for 2020 will be rescheduled for next year, Wagner said.

She noted that Levitt is working on educational outreach programs such as a virtual music camp for kids and virtual programming with prior performers.
