Kings Island sets sunscreen record

Kings Island on Saturday topped the record for the most people applying sunscreen at the same time with 2,148 to help raise money and awareness for Melanoma Know More.

Sunscreen was provided courtesy of Panama Jack, according to a release from the Warren County amusement park.

Guinness World Records says the current record of 1,822 people applying sunscreen at the same time was achieved May 18 by Ann's Hope Foundation in Milwaukee, Wis.

Melanoma Know More is striving to reduce the impact of melanoma through awareness, education, support and medical research and assistance to persons affected by melanoma.

The event is part of Kings Island's Kicks Cancer campaign to raise awareness and money for the fight against cancers affecting men, women and children. Park visitors can contribute to the campaign through Aug. 24 by buying a soccer ball for $5 and kicking it into the park fountain for a chance to win a new 2015 Honda Fit, courtesy of Performance Kings Honda. Proceeds from soccer ball sales benefit The Dragonfly Foundation, Melanoma Know More and Pink Ribbon Girls.
