No one was injured. A woman was home when the fire occurred and called 911, said Jim Baber, battalion chief of the Miami Valley Fire District.
The woman told fire officials she was cooking prior to seeing flames.
Baber said the fire spread from the kitchen to the upstairs.
The damage estimate and exact cause were still under investigation.
Baber said the family will be staying in a hotel tonight because the home is uninhabitable.
