After nearly 15 years, Lebanon City Schools has a new website, which now has become a revenue generator for the district.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction Mark Graler said the new site now features advertising space, which is being sold to area businesses so they can reach those who follow the district’s website.

“Something we’ve worked to do is turn our website into a revenue generator. We’ve worked with Legend Web Works (in Mason) to sell advertisements to local businesses on each of the pages,” he said. “This means that now instead of paying to create and maintain a website, we’re actually earning money for the district with it.”

In fact, Kedrick Fitzgerald from Legend Web Works recently presented a check for $3,160 to the board of education — Lebanon’s share of advertising revenue for the first year of the site.

“We had looked previously at having our site redeveloped, and the costs were simply too high. When Legend presented the concept of the ads, in which they share revenue, it became a win-win — low redesign cost for us combined with revenue generation and ad revenue for them,” Graler said.

The new site at www.lebanonschools.org is a user-friendly design with a fresh look.

“The new site incorporates the latest in web design, and for anyone used to Lebanon’s past site, it is an amazing improvement,” Graler said. “The new site is much, much easier to navigate. We also intend to post more up-to-date information instead of just handbooks and static items. The site also connects with Facebook and Twitter, and we’ve started using those sites to communicate as well. … The layout and navigation has been updated to the industry standard. It looks and feels like a current site.”

The district paid $700 for the redesign and will pay $400 annually for hosting.
