FAIRFIELD — Liberty Mutual Group gained additional capacity with its recently renovated offices, adding 39 workers since Oct. 1 and currently hiring for 24 positions, said a spokesman.

Open positions at the recently renovated Fairfield facility vary from underwriter trainee to senior claims specialist to customer service representative, according to ohiomeansjobs.com. Fairfield became the headquarters of Ohio Casualty after it moved there from Hamilton in 1999 until Liberty Mutual bought Ohio Casualty in 2007. Ohio Casualty is now part of Liberty Mutual Agency Corp., one of four strategic business units.

“Liberty Mutual Group is always monitoring its business operations and aligning our staffing levels to meet our customer needs,” said Chris Goetcheus, a spokesman for Liberty Mutual of Boston, Mass.

An approximately $10 million renovation was done of Liberty Mutual’s more than 300,000-square-feet of Fairfield offices, 9450 Seward Road, beginning in 2008. The offices house a total 1,250 employees of Liberty Mutual, its business unit Liberty Mutual Agency Markets and Ohio Casualty, Goetcheus said. In 2008, Goetcheus said up to 1,300 employees could be accommodated once renovations are complete.

As of July, when it had 975 employees, Ohio Casualty was the county’s 12th largest employer, according to Butler County Department of Development.

“There was a lot of reorganization of the company in a lot of their locations around the country,” said Greg Kathman, Fairfield’s economic development manager. “I’m guessing this is part of their strategic reorganization that started when Ohio Casualty was purchased.”

In other hiring news, a Chick-fil-A restaurant slated to open in February at Bridgewater Falls Lifestyle Shopping Center in Faifield Twp. is hiring 65 to 75 people; a Menards Mega Store, also in Fairfield Twp., is hiring now for when it opens in mid-winter; and SunCoke Energy will begin taking applications in January for hourly workers at Middletown Coke Co., which is scheduled to open next fall.
